It’s all about the Gluts this class, in particular Gluteus Medius. A cue you’ll hear me say during class is: ‘Hug Your Hip In’. What does this mean? Gluteus Medius is the main muscle in the hip for providing pelvic stability in static, standing and balancing poses. We do this a lot in yoga, right? When this muscle isn’t firing, we end up collapsing into the standing hip. It’s something that I catch myself doing during my own yoga practice as well as being something that I often see in the classes that I teach. So the cue, ‘Hug Your Hip In’ reminds us to draw the hip in to avoid collapsing or sagging into the weight baring hip joint. So in this class, we’ll be firing this muscle up and bringing awareness to this region of the hip with some pilates inspired exercises. We’ll then feed these exercises and awareness into a 60-minute flow.
