During this 60 minute flow, you’ll hear me say, ‘ Imagine you have a corset around your waist and someone is just slightly tightening it’, or, ‘Cinch in around the waist’. Why am I saying these verbal cues? These cues are meant to fire up the deepest muscle in the core: Transverse Abdominus (TVA); a fundamental muscle in supporting the free floating region of the lumbar spine. TVA is not a big movement making muscle but it does help to lengthen the side of the waist. What’s important with working TVA is the subtlety and this is why I give these verbal cues: they require an ability to turn inwards and listen. What I love about this muscle is that we can tune in and out of it throughout our yoga practice (and life) to create a deep and subtle sense of core support for whenever we need it most. Whether that’s coming into … or hoovering the house!
